Europe's season opens in Finland in October

Ruka and Levi open their slopes in October and often stay open until Easter, or even May — one of the longest snow seasons in Europe.

Three hours of daylight in December

Kuusamo, home of Ruka, does not quite get a full polar night, but in December it has only about three hours of daylight, and around five in November and January.

Figures describe Finland as a whole, not just the resorts we track. Skier visits are shown only where a national industry body or two independent reports agree.
