Olympic resort with extensive interconnected terrain
Sestriere hosted Olympic events and offers extensive interconnected skiing in the Via Lattea (Milky Way) ski area.
Sestriere has 400 pistes served by 70 lifts — the most pistes of the 30 resorts we track in Italy.
The lifts run from 2035m at the base to 2823m at the top, a vertical of 788m. Of the 30 resorts we track in Italy, that is the 9th highest, with the 29th biggest vertical.
A base above 1,800m is high by Alpine standards, so the runs back to the village hold their snow better than at lower resorts.
The pistes at Sestriere split 30% beginner, 45% intermediate and 25% advanced, against an average of 32% beginner and 24% advanced across the resorts we track in Italy.
On those numbers it suits beginners and intermediates.

Estimates from straight-line distances, not timetables: flights at typical cruising speed plus taxi and climb, transfers at an average 65 km/h by road. They leave out check-in and baggage time, and mountain roads in snow can take much longer. Check with airlines and transfer companies before booking.
