Fourteen metres of snow a year at Rogers Pass

Rogers Pass in Glacier National Park averages 14 m of snowfall a year at treeline. There are 270 pre-set targets on the 135 slide paths that can reach the highway or the railway.

The largest artillery avalanche programme in the world

Since 1961 Parks Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces have run the world's largest mobile artillery avalanche-control programme at Rogers Pass, using 105 mm howitzers to bring slopes down deliberately.

The army is stepping back in 2027

After 65 years, the military will not renew its avalanche-control agreement at Rogers Pass. It ends in August 2027.

Figures describe Canada as a whole, not just the resorts we track. Skier visits are shown only where a national industry body or two independent reports agree.
